I've been thinking about symbols. Recently there have been a couple of incidents near here that relate to religious symbols and thought. A girl was told that she couldn't wear her Native American medicine bag at school, and a boy was kicked out of honor society because his views on the purpose of marriage don't agree with the Catholic view of marriage being only for having children.

I have been thinking of putting one of those fish on my car - since I found an add for one that has the word "Buddha" in the center - or getting a "WWBD?" What Would Buddha Do? braclet. Afterall, why should Christians have all the fun? ;)

But what would the intent be for either of those things? If my intention is to have them because they make me happy, or because they are a reminder of mindfullness, then great. If they are a way for me to feel separate, or superior, or to show someone for my sake, then not so great.

Perhaps, I should simply work on showing my faith through my actions each day, and leave the symbols alone for now.
