Therese Schroeder-Sheker is an amazing woman - I've heard her speak and play the harp - and her
Chalice of Repose project is such a wonderful thing. I've always used plainsong and Medieval chanting in meditation and contemplation. I've been drawn to this music through its cultural familiarity, rather than its religious meaning. Because I'm not Asian, I've had to learn to love what would be considered Buddhist chants and music.
The wonderful philosophy of this prescriptive music, though, is that the musician sits vigil with the patient in presence. Playing intuitively what the patient wants and needs, not a therapy planned by a care-giver.
This is something that I would love to be part of my end of life care. What a gift!
